This course will address the dynamics between injured worker and the team. The “team” includes the case manager, employer, and all treating providers. The purpose of this course is clarity of goals and obtainable outcomes shared between the team as they strive towards a safe and realistic return to work for the injured worker. Successful engagement is based on trust.
Initially there are few shared values between employer and injured worker once the injured worker files a claim. The workload often becomes minimized in the eyes of the employer and overwhelming in the eyes of the injured worker. Add the component of the case manager to the mix and the lines are drawn. What work values may have been shared prior to the injury are now looked upon with suspicion and the refrain of “yes, but” is heard frequently. The employer is worried about cost, the injured worker about pain, loss of lifestyle and a growing realization that they are entitled “to something” based on the conversations with their friends and coworkers.
