Course Description

The following course will outline cultural diversity in the workplace and how to translate a better understanding of cultural diversity into the healthcare professions. This course will review cultural respect, cultural competence, health disparities, health-related experience, complementary approaches, patient-centered care, trans-cultural communication, and skilled-centered approaches to care.

  1. Define culture and cultural respect.

  2. Compare and contrast CAM and traditional medicine.

  3. List the characteristics of a culturally respectful clinician.

  4. Recognize those things that affect healthcare disparities.

  5. Describe patient centered care and the process for the healthcare clinician.

  6. State the steps in the process of cultural competency.
